Uyi Effiom has more than nine years of experience in the environmental restoration field. Uyi is procurement, protocol, and logistics manager at Stand Out For Environment Restoration Initiative, focusing on promoting environmental protection and restoration and on developing and promoting youth volunteerism in communities. She has volunteered with the Fishing Net Gains Project, which identifies and tackles ghost gear and other related threats to marine life in Nigeria and the West Coast of Africa and has trained women on waste-to-wealth creation, such as making fabrics from abandoned, lost, or discarded fishing gear. She also volunteers with other various environmental organizations, events, projects, and initiatives. Uyi is an experienced chef and owns and runs a corporate catering restaurant. She holds a bachelor's degree in Law and is pursuing a master's degree in Environmental and Natural Resources Law from the University College Cork. Uyi is committed to changing and modifying perceptions of individuals toward the environment and improving the participation of civil society in environmental sustainability. After completing the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, Uyi plans to formulate policies, to help local communities face the challenges of climate change, and to develop and sustain a career in the environmental sphere.
