About Belinda Mligo

Pronouns: she/her/hers

Country: Tanzania

Belinda Mligo has more than three years of experience in the wildlife and public health field. Currently, Belinda is program coordinator in the Human-Lion Coexistence Program in the People, Lion, and Environment program in the Landscape and Conservation Mentors Organization. She focuses on awareness and conservation education outreach campaigns to communities living near the protected areas in western Tanzania. The campaigns aim to reduce retaliatory and nonretaliatory killing of lions, which occur because of those communities' norms and customs. She has worked as a research assistant in various wildlife and One Health projects and has volunteered at National Research Medical Institute as an enumerator. Belinda holds a master's degree in Public Health and Food Safety and a bachelor's degree in Wildlife Management. She is committed to promoting awareness among communities located near the protected areas and to reducing wildlife encroachment activities by providing alternative livelihoods to community members. After completing the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, Belinda plans to engage key stakeholders in promoting awareness campaigns regarding conservation and environmental conservation and also in promoting public health education about diseases that can be transmitted through wild animals.
