Global Education for All

Imagine

It’s 2027. Elena ’22 is modeling ozone pollution impact on California and international rice production, working with a Chinese engineer she met in a virtual seminar.

Ananya ’23 just launched a textiles micro-enterprise in India, using ideas developed through campus connections with Peruvian entrepreneurs.

Malcolm ’24 heads a federal poverty relief effort, a passion sparked through late-night conversations with sophomore suitemates and pursued through work with Sacramento immigrant communities and studies in Geneva.

These leaders all met as students at UC Davis, where they were immersed in a cross-cultural environment rich with experiences preparing them to live, lead and collaborate in a globalized world. And each continues to benefit from and contribute to a growing global alumni network.

The Vision

UC Davis has a vision to provide a global education for all students. We will forge multiple pathways to ensure that every student is enriched by global engagement and builds upon the intercultural connections and capacities they bring to campus.

  • Internationalized academic curricula that employ new technologies to support global collaboration
  • Expanded opportunities for study abroad and globally-oriented domestic study away programming
  • New avenues to engage with world challenges and resources via global research and on-campus colloquia
  • Increased support for global experiential learning, service and impact
  • Global living communities that facilitate connection and learning among students of diverse backgrounds
  • Co-curricular learning and leadership opportunities that tap the rich intercultural knowledge on campus and across our region

Moving Forward

To guide further development and implementation, Global Affairs has convened a campus-wide Steering Committee whose members engage with each school and college, as well as the student body, Academic Senate, Academic Federation, Staff Assembly, and other key units that support student life and learning. As a campus “Big Idea,” the Global Education for All initiative is working closely with University Development to identify investors in key resources, from endowed professorships, to student research and scholarship support, to a vibrant campus hub for campus globalization activity—the Center for Intercultural Understanding.

UC Davis is educating the next generation of global problem-solvers. We invite the partnership of our campus community, alumni and friends in ensuring a global education that helps every student thrive in an interconnected world.
