Bio

Dr. Assenga graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and a Masters in Preventive Veterinary Medicine (MPVM) from Sokoine University of Agriculture, Tanzania and a second Masters in International Animal Health from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. He has been working with the Ilala Municipal Council in Tanzania for the past 21 years with the primary responsibility of supervising, coordinating and promoting agriculture and livestock activities. He also coordinates programs implemented by stakeholders within the municipal council. He is skilled in the field of animal disease control, particularly in trans-boundary animal diseases and zoonotic infections. Currently, he is engaged in the development of urban agriculture and livestock management for food security and income generation in developing cities in sub-Sahara countries. During his Humphrey year, he will focus on urban agricultural development and learn more about the concept of “one world, one health”.
