Formalizing collaborative partnership opportunities with international institutions
- Global Affairs has a process for establishing International Agreements (Agreements of Cooperation "AOCs" or Memoranda of Understanding "MOUs") to formalize ongoing collaborative opportunities between institutions and faculty, which do not involve the commitment of campus resources.
- UC Davis' Office of Research actively supports and facilitates international research collaborations through International Research Partnerships & Engagement.
Traveling internationally and study abroad
- For travel registration, insurance information, and travel tips for UC Davis employees visit Global Affairs Travel Security and Resources.
- Explore programs for UC Davis students offered through Global Affairs’ Global Learning Hub.
- Receive free immunizations and vaccine medications for international work trips through Occupational Health Services' Travel Medicine Program.
- For guidance on international research, review the Office of Research International Travel, Research, and Collaborations.
- Find resources, training, equipment and guidance to support researchers working outdoors at the Field Research Safety Program. The program is primarily focused on remote and/or international locations.
Hosting visiting international students and scholars from other countries
- For assistance with visa and immigration, contact Services for International Students and Scholars (SISS) for further information, and review the Department Roles and Responsibilities. The Visiting Academic Collaborators Policy may apply.
- Consult your department about established processes and procedures regarding visiting international scholars. Your respective unit may have distinct protocols that must be adhered to.
- Consultation with Export Control may be needed for international visitors. Refer to the Office of Research’s International Visitors, Students, and Researchers.
- See program offerings through the Division of Continuing and Professional Education for international visiting students.
Sharing research data, materials or information
- A Material/Data Transfer Agreement may be required prior to transferring tangible research material or data sets.
- Consult the Office of Research for UC Davis Intellectual Property policies and procedures.
- Export Control compliance ensures that research activities, collaborations and international shipments adhere to U.S. laws and regulations.
- Review Office of Research export control resources for international shipments.
- Review University of California Office of the President (UCOP) resources on foreign influences on research integrity.
Funding

- Office of Research Funding Opportunities: resources geared towards UC Davis faculty and staff researchers.
- Sponsor-Specific Disclosures: work with the Sponsored Programs Office to ensure that you are meeting the sponsor’s expectations and new requirements for disclosures.
- Financial Conflicts of Interest in Research (COI): ensure that all the Federal and State mandated financial conflict of interest (COI) disclosures required by your sponsor have been met.
- Conflict of Commitment (CoC): disclose all your outside professional activities, whether paid or unpaid, through the required UC Davis Outside Activities Reporting System (OATS).
