Saara Niitenge is a statistician at the Namibia Statistics Agency and has experience in biodiversity finance, valuation of ecosystem services, and data analysis. Saara holds an honor´s degree in Economics and is currently pursuing a master's degree in Development Studies. She is passionate about ‘numbers for nature’ and is committed to protecting the environment by advocating for the use of statistics for better planning and decision-making. As such, Saara is one of the founding directors of the Environmental Economics Network of Namibia. After the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Saara hopes to continue supporting the establishment of environment statistics in Namibia and contribute to policy frameworks geared towards achieving the country's National Development Plans, as well as the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
