Souhila Aouali holds a Master’s Degree in Breeding Plants for Disease Resistance from the National Institute of Agricultural Sciences of Algiers. She taught plant ecology at the Institut National de la Formation Supérieure des Cadres de la Jeunesse of Algiers for two years (1998-2000). She also has over six years experience in the Technical Institute of Field Crops of Algiers as both Head of the Plant Pathology Laboratory and Local Program Coordinator for the development of organic agriculture of field crops. She has two years experience with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, where she has been serving as a national expert in the implementation of a technical cooperation program training field agents and farmers. Ms. Aouali has four years experience as a project member in distance learning course design and online tutoring with the Institute of Mediterranean Agriculture of Bari (Italy), working to create a Virtual University of Mediterranean Agricultural Sciences. During her Humphrey year, she plans to sharpen her knowledge and professional skills in integrated pest and crop management as well as sustainable farming systems and policies. While in the US, she hopes to work with United Nations and international organizations focusing on integrated crop and pest management projects.
