Program: Sustainable water and irrigation management ‐ condensation irrigation

Bagher Yousefi is a specialist in solar desalination to use seawater for irrigation and drinking water to have sustainable water resources. In the past eight years, he has worked as an expert in water and soil in a private company, Baghban Agricultural Company, in the south of Iran. In this role, he provided direct consultation and support to farmers to overcome water shortages and increase water use efficiency in their gardens. In addition, with over a decade of part-time teaching experience at the university and practical experience in the field, he has a strong foundation in both academia and practical work. This unique blend positions him to contribute innovative solutions and address critical challenges pertaining to water resources.

Dr. Yousefi holds a Ph.D. of Engineering in irrigation and drainage from Chamran University of Ahvaz, and he furthered his expertise by spending nine months at Lulea University of Technology in Sweden as a guest researcher where he delved into the utilization of renewable energies in desalination plants. Additionally, he enriched his knowledge by attending two programs at the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education and The Hague Academy for Local Governance in the Netherlands, focusing on irrigation and drainage and multilevel water governance. Moreover, Dr. Yousefi has cultivated a robust global network, enabling him to pursue ongoing research endeavors. His impressive publication record in both ISI and local journals, coupled with active participation in international conferences, underscores his significant contributions to advancing the field of solar desalination and irrigation.

As a Humphrey fellow, Dr. Yousefi will concentrate on enhancing his novel ideas concerning solar desalination plants for irrigation and agriculture water management. He also seeks to acquire knowledge of new methods and technologies to have sustainable water resources.
