Bio

Salem Sintayehu Gizie has over five years of experience in community development, especially in the empowerment of women and youth. Currently, Salem is an electrical engineer working as a researcher at the Ethiopian Space Science and Technology Institute and is on the team launching the first ever Ethiopian satellite into space. She is the co-founder of a network of researchers that works to aid the decision-making process of Ethiopia and a country representative for the joint project between Chatham House and Robert Bosch Stiftung. The project, Common Futures Conversation, is an online platform facilitating dialogue between young people in Africa and Europe. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Salem plans to continue her work in research-based decision making and increase youth´s involvement in Ethiopian politics.
