Kingsley (Kelsey) Kalu brings over five years of experience in climate adaptation, gender equity, and social justice advocacy. As the climate adaptation specialist and project lead at DeKhay's Envo in Abia, Cross River, and Lagos, Nigeria, Kelsey works with smallholder farmers to implement climate-smart solutions, hold capacity-building workshops, and promote sustainable practices. The Ban Ki-Moon Center has named them an EVWA Changemaker for 2023. Their work includes elevating the voices of marginalized women in agriculture and creating inclusive networks such as the Climate Smart Network, which includes people with disabilities, people living with HIV, and LGBTQI youth and women. Kelsey earned a BSc in human anatomy from the University of Calabar and an MSc in international public health from Liverpool John Moores University. Following the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Kelsey intends to strengthen the Climate-Smart Network's capacity and local knowledge base, as well as launch Get, the Eco Career Academy, which will target marginalized groups in disaster-prone areas and build their capacity in sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, climate adaptation, and resilience by developing and honing policy advocacy skills to further advocate for climate justice and empower marginalized communities.
