About Barbara Kumi

Barbara Kumi has more than five years of experience in spatial planning-related matters and urban management issues in Ghana. Currently, Barbara is assistant spatial planning officer at the Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority, where she focuses on the compliance of metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies with spatial planning laws, regulations and policies. She also employs geographic information system tools to address urban management challenges. She has experience working with Solidaridad West Africa and Participatory Development Associates, both of which focus on youth forward development initiatives. Barbara holds a bachelor's degree in human settlement planning and she is pursuing a master's in geoinformation science at the University of Ghana. She is committed to the development of sustainable and modern cities that address transport, waste, disaster management challenges and urban poverty. After completing the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, Barbara plans to contribute to bettering policy, legislation, structures and systems in spatial planning practice and education.
