Ms. Fathimah Handayani, a forest conservationist, obtained her Bachelors in Forest Resources Conservation from Gadjah Mada University in Indonesia. She started working in the Ministry of Environment and Forestry in the General Directorate of Sustainable Production Forest Management in 2008. After completing her Masters degree in Forest Science and Management in 2015 at the Southern Cross University in Australia, she moved to the Forest Research and Development Center of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry in Indonesia as a data analyst. Upon her return to Indonesia, she will undertake a position as a researcher. In her career to date, she has worked on a number of projects related to forest resources conservation, sustainable production forest management, renewable energy sources, and the impact of climate change on forests.

Her area of interest is biodiversity conservation and protected area management. Her research focuses on the establishment of the forest management unit of conservation areas as the smallest management unit at site level for biodiversity.

Ms. Handayani is currently a Humphrey Fellow for the 2017-2018 academic year at UC Davis. During her time in the U.S., she would like to learn more about biodiversity conservation, the protection of natural resources, specifically forests, and research project management. She also plans to take courses related to wildlife biology and conservation in order to explore possible topics of interest for her future PhD dissertation. Finally, she would like to spend time at the USDA Forestry Service and National Park in the U.S. to deepen her practical knowledge of those fields.
