Bio
Ms. Djelfaoui holds a degree in Agricultural Engineering, specializing in Desert Agronomy from Kasdi Merbah University. She has studied plant adaptation, water economy, palm date, and desertification. In her current position, she is the head of a local initiative committee, where she has developed 28 projects which focus on preservation and cultivation of oasis. Much of Ms. Djelfaoui’s work involves technical consulting for land use and agricultural cooperatives. As a Humphrey Fellow, she hopes to develop working tools to increase the confidence and motivation of local farmers, to develop new projects involving women in rural areas, and to establish rural development/agricultural cooperatives policy in Algeria.
