Winfred Mutinda is an electrical engineer by profession, with over four years of experience in the energy sector, she currently works for the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited, as a planning and design engineer for power transmission and infrastructure development projects. Winfred holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Nairobi and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Energy Technology at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. She is a YALI Women in Africa Power pilot cohort alumna, and a volunteer mentor with Akili Dada Foundation, where she mentors young girls to pursue STEM-related careers. Winfred is also the founder of the Blessed to Bless Initiative, which is aimed at giving back to the community through charity and mentorship programs, as well as clean energy and energy efficiency sensitization programs. Winfred's greatest motivation is in contributing positively towards the eradication of energy poverty in society. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Winfred plans to use the acquired skills and networks to increase the impact of the Blessed to Bless Initiative by mentoring young girls to take up STEM careers, and efficiently managing transmission infrastructure projects, to ensure communities can access affordable and reliable energy.
