Bio

Sheila Uwase has more than 10 years of experience in civil engineering. She currently works as a public transport officer in Kigali, where she plans and implements urban transport projects, elaborates on standard norms of transport, and supervises private and public transport operators' compliance. She identifies new road networks and related infrastructure across Kigali, develops tools and policies that improve urban transport and traffic, and endorses studies for road construction projects. She has worked as a project manager for road construction and real estate development projects. Sheila is passionate about promoting girls' education, especially in science, technology, engineering, and math, and is a volunteer mentor to young women at her former high school and university through the Mastercard Foundation and the Forum for African Women Educationalists Rwanda. She holds a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and Environmental Technology, and is committed to learning more about purpose leadership and the relationship between policies and resources. After completing the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, Sheila plans to use the skills she acquires to implement more development projects and expand her mentorship programs to encourage more women to pursue their academic and career dreams.
