University of California Opportunities
Joint Research Fund with Tecnológico de Monterrey
This program funds joint research between the UC system and Tec de Monterrey in Industrial Transformation, Climate & Sustainability, and Prosperous Cities. Projects starting October 2026 may receive 12-month funding, with possible extension to 24 months based on progress and available funds.

2025 Call for Proposals for Latino Studies Projects
This initiative supports research focused on U.S. Latino communities and their relationships with Mexico in the context of contemporary binational relations. UC principal investigators are invited to submit proposals for up to $150,000 in seed funding for projects beginning no earlier than February 2026 and lasting up to 24 months.

University of Zurich Global Funding Scheme 2025
The University of Zurich Global Funding Scheme 2025 supports international collaboration with UC Davis through three funding lines. The main applicant must be affiliated with the University of Zurich. Grants promote global visibility, seed larger projects or foster partnerships.

KU Leuven Global Seed Fund
KU Leuven announces the second Global Seed Fund call to support international research collaboration. UC Davis is invited to apply for up to €30,000 per project. Projects begin January 2026.

Academics Without Borders USA
Academics Without Borders (AWB) supports faculty-driven projects that strengthen higher education institutions in low- and middle-income countries, fostering sustainable development through capacity-building initiatives. AWB provides funding and logistical support for projects that enhance teaching, research and institutional governance, creating meaningful global impact. UC Davis faculty are encouraged to explore funding opportunities to collaborate with international partners and advance education worldwide.

U21 Disability Inclusion Mapping Report
In June 2025, Universitas 21 released a report offering a global snapshot of disability inclusion in research universities. Co-authored by over 30 experts, including Joshua Hori of the UC Davis Student Disability Center, the report highlights the impact of international collaboration in advancing equity and inclusion in higher education.

In 2024-25, Ted Powers, a professor of molecular and cellular biology, was selected for a Seed Grant for International Activities and is investigating how to bring back the benefits of a revolutionary drug to the people who were there from the beginning.

Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program

REAL ID Act Enforcement Starts May 7, 2025
All U.S. travelers should be aware that the REAL ID Act is being enforced starting May 7, 2025. Travelers 18 and over need a REAL ID-compliant license or another acceptable ID (Passport, etc.) to board commercial domestic flights and access federal facilities.
Merit and Promotion Guidance for Globally Engaged Scholars
In August 2023, the Academic Affairs “Annual Call” introduced an optional Statement of Contributions to Public and Global Impact that faculty can now include in their merit and promotion dossiers. The statement encourages candidates to “tell the story” of their public and/or global engagement in ways that reveal its full breadth and impact to the colleagues who will evaluate their accomplishments, especially when that impact may not be evident in MIV and the Candidate’s Statement alone.
