Our 10 Finalists in Abbreviated Grad Slam

In the Grad Slam, master’s and Ph.D. students from all disciplines are invited to sum up their research for presentation to a general audience, covering the significance and fundamental points of their work in a clear, direct and interesting manner, in three minutes or less. In addition, Global Affairs presented its Global Education for All designation to Hussain and Kasemsap for their exploration of globally relevant research topics. 

UC Davis Chancellor’s Awardees, Study Abroad Instructors, Faculty Researchers Celebrated for Global Engagement

Four faculty and staff members spanning four UC Davis colleges, schools, and units were honored by Chancellor Gary S. May as Chancellor’s Awards for International Engagement recipients. One member of the Academic Senate and one member of the Academic Federation received the Academic Senate’s Excellence in Teaching in Study Abroad Awards. This year’s recipients of various Global Affairs grant and development programs were also announced, including the inaugural Grants for Advancing Sustainable Development Goals.

New Grants for Advancing Sustainable Development Goals Spur Collaboration On Campus and Beyond

On campus and around the world, UC Davis faculty, students, and staff are addressing all 17 SDGs in various teaching, research, and service activities. The inaugural Grants for Advancing SDGs support work already underway and spark new partnerships. The five selected projects contribute towards 14 of the SDGs—locally and globally—bringing together more than 12 UC Davis colleges, school, and units, and more than 10 external partners.

Ladson Hinton is a geriatric psychiatrist, social scientist and professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the UC Davis School of Medicine. With over two decades of interdisciplinary and intercultural research under his lab coat, he has become an expert on the sociocultural dimensions of dementia-related illness—and the caregiving this calls for.

LAURELS: Suad Joseph Receives Service Award from the Middle East Studies Association of North America, Diana Farmer Receives Global Leadership Award from U21

Calling her an “institutional cornerstone,” the Middle East Studies Association of North America recently presented its annual Jere L. Bacharach Service Award to Distinguished Professor Suad Joseph. U21 recently announced Professor Diana Farmer, a pediatric and fetal surgeon, as the recipient of a 2020 U21 Award for advancing global perspectives in her field.
