The UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine held the second annual Global Programs Day, which provided veterinary students and others in the audience with perspectives on integrating cultural awareness.

UC Davis Chile and the company Industrias Chilenas de Alambre Inchalam S.A. signed a Collaboration Agreement to initiate a technical collaboration to develop innovation projects focused on the fruit sector.

Stone tools uncovered in Mongolia by an international team of archaeologists indicate that modern humans traveled across the Eurasian steppe about 45,000 years ago, according to a new University of California, Davis, study.

Pam Ronald, a distinguished professor in the Department of Plant Pathology, will return to Sweden to receive an appointment as an honorary doctor of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, more than 30 years after receiving her first degree in Sweden, a Master of Science in physiological botany from Uppsala.

This year's graduate fellows in the College of Letters and Science come from a wide range of majors and are using the fellowships to explore diverse topics. Graduate fellowships support students in humanities, arts, and cultural studies programs to engage in research or creative projects over the summer. The $5,000 awards are supported by a bequest of Robert and Margrit Mondavi, the Dean of the College of Letters and Science and the Templeton Endowment for Arts and Letters.

Distinguished Professor Walter Leal’s interest in insect olfaction started with a general interest in chemistry. Raised in the coastal city of Recife, Brazil, he became entranced with the subject thanks to his high school chemistry teacher Aloisio Sotero, who later held various government appointments including Minister of Education.
