Call for Applications: Fulbright Chairs from Chile at UC Davis
- Call for Applications —The call for applications will open the first week of August 2025
- Open to any discipline
- Deadline: October 30, 2025
Fulbright Chile and the University of California, Davis, are pleased to announce the continuation of their joint sponsorship program for Fulbright Chairs, which has been running annually since 2022. Applications will be accepted each year from the first week of August until October 30. A collaboration between Fulbright Chile and UC Davis, the Fulbright Chairs are awarded to faculty members or researchers who have made significant contributions to their respective fields. This selective program aims to foster international partnerships, enhance research, and strengthen teaching collaborations between Chilean institutions and UC Davis.
How Funding Works
The Program will award funding for one visiting scholar for a three- or four-month period, as follows:
- US$ 32,400 (thirty-two thousand four hundred U.S. dollars) for living expenses and an international round-trip air ticket. Half of this amount is provided by UC Davis ($16,200). The UC Davis portion of the funding is structured internally as a cost-sharing collaboration between Global Affairs and the hosting college/school/unit ($8,100 each). Securing the matching $8,100 in funding from the college/school/unit is the responsibility of the hosting faculty member at UC Davis. UC Davis’s ability to host a Fulbright Chair is contingent on the availability of funding from that department and/or its associated school or college.
- Limited health coverage through ASPE (Accident and Sickness Program for Exchanges).
- Visa J-1 and J-2 fees.
- Access to the facilities and services of the University of California, Davis, such as office space, internet connection, laboratories, libraries, and any other courtesies and amenities regularly provided to the academic community to ensure the success of the proposed activities.

UC Davis Departmental Responsibilities for Hosting Fulbright Visiting Scholars
The UC Davis host department should establish contact with the visiting scholar before their arrival on campus to address any initial questions or concerns and to determine an appropriate start date. Once the scholar arrives, the faculty host plays a key role in helping the scholar settle into campus by:
- Encouraging the visiting scholar to visit the UC Davis Services for International Students and Scholars (SISS) office to confirm arrival.
- Visiting scholars are encouraged to attend an SISS orientation for J-1 scholars, which provides useful information about the campus.
- SISS can provide information on short-term housing, securing a bank account, driver’s licenses, social security cards, transportation upon arrival and during stay, and school registration for dependents
- The International Student and Scholar Handbook provides resources to support visiting scholars.
- Arranging for a UC Davis email account.
- Providing appropriate office space and computer and library access.
- Assisting the scholar in obtaining a UC Davis ID card.
- Providing a tour of campus or encourage the scholar to take advantage of the tours offered through UC Davis Visitor Services.
- Introducing the scholar to department staff and colleagues and discussing an appropriate work schedule.
- Maintaining frequent contact with the scholar throughout their stay on campus.
