Excellence in Teaching for Global Learning Awards
At UC Davis, we are committed to educating the new generation of global problem solvers and change-makers. As part of our Provost’s Priority Initiative, Global Education for All, we aim to provide 100% of undergraduate, graduate and professional students with transformative global learning opportunities and experiences designed to change their lives and impact our world positively.
Global learning at UC Davis encompasses a combination of local, regional, national and international experiences that support students in developing essential skills, knowledge and networks. Our goal is to help them build global awareness, engage with global diversity and encourage collaborative and equitable global action. Faculty play a crucial role as facilitators of students’ global learning.
The Excellence in Teaching for Global Learning Award, a collaboration between Global Affairs and the Academic Senate, recognizes UC Davis instructors who demonstrate exceptional dedication to providing impactful global learning experiences. These instructors design, teach and lead innovative courses, programs and educational activities focused on global learning, both at home and abroad. They demonstrate exceptional dedication to students and enhance students’ capacities to become informed, open-minded and responsible individuals who are receptive to diverse perspectives and can address global challenges collaboratively, equitably and sustainably.
Some ways of engaging in teaching for global learning include but are not limited to teaching Study Abroad programs, organizing and/or teaching virtual collaboration and exchange programs, overseeing global internships or local internships with significant global dimensions, teaching First-Year Seminars tagged for Global Learning, teaching in the Global Studies minor and/or deeply engaging with and implementing the Global Learning Outcomes in on-campus courses. Successful candidates will show a deep and intentional engagement with the Global Learning Outcomes through their pedagogy, mentorship and/or program development, whether on- or off-campus.
