Maseko is a Neuroscientist and Senior Lecturerer at the School of Anatomical Sciences at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits University) in Johannesburg, South Africa. She studied Neuroscience and Neuroanatomy at Wits University, where she completed a PhD in Comparative Neuroanatomy with a special focus on the elephant brain. Currently, she is hosted at UC Davis (MIND Institute) in the lab of Dr V. Martínez-Cerdeño, conducting research on human autistic brains within the brain tissue collection there, in hopes to establish a similar facility in South Africa, along with a laboratory that will investigate the African population with regards to autism neuroanatomy. Her current research focus, among others, includes the appearance of neuronal synapses in autistic brains as compared to neurotypical brains.
