Sagwata Anthony Manyike has over 14 years of experience in urban planning, primarily focusing on sustainable development. Currently, Sagwata is a senior advisor at the South African Local Government Association, where he focuses on supporting local government in developing and implementing local economic development plans conducive to business growth. Sagwata has also worked as a specialist advisor on the Biodiversity and Land Use Project, funded by the UNDP through the Global Environment Facility. Sagwata holds a master's degree in city and regional planning from the University of Cape Town. He is driven to help people and improve communities, which is why he chose to work in the public sector, knowing its significant impact on people's lives. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Sagwata plans to leverage his urban planning experience to address pressing urban challenges and foster inclusive, resilient communities. His goal is to shape a future that is environmentally sustainable, socially equitable, and economically prosperous.
