Ruth Mumba is a geologist with a Bachelor of Science in Earth Sciences and Geography from the University of Malawi, Chancellor College. Ruth has been working for the past five years at the Government of Malawi´s Geological Survey Department, focusing on geological mapping and geothermal resources exploration. Ruth is also the director of a voluntary non-profit organization, Abundance, which supports a village in southern Malawi using an integrated approach. Motivated to see communities thrive by using an integrated approach in development, Ruth´s passion is volunteerism and supporting vulnerable populations. She hopes to see communities sustainably use their natural resources, have access to quality education, technologies, and health facilities. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Ruth plans to continue her work in geosciences by conducting research, mentoring university students in the sector, and building a dynamic volunteer community to work towards community development and environmental conservation.
