UC Davis Partners with University of Agriculture Faisalabad in Pakistan for Collaborations in Horticulture and Animal Science

On June 1, 2021, the University of California, Davis and the University of Agriculture Faisalabad in Pakistan signed an agreement of cooperation to partner on research and capacity building collaborations in horticulture and animal science. The agreement builds upon past agreements between the two universities signed in 2008 and 2013 as well as ongoing collaborations between UC Davis and Pakistan.

Chidubem Nnaji wins Donald A. Strauss Foundation Scholarship

Civil and environmental engineering student Chidubem Nnaji has been named a 2021 Donald A. Strauss Foundation Scholar for his project titled “Using Solar Power to Empower.” The annual scholarship was established as a memorial to the late Don Strauss—a successful business executive who had a lifelong interest in education and public service—and awards $15,000 to up to fifteen college sophomores or juniors from pre-selected institutions in California. Nnaji’s project is focused on bringing accessible, clean water to his village in Nigeria and to educate residents on the importance of sustainable water practices. The goal of this project is to install a solar-powered, self-sustaining water pump that will alleviate the shortage of clean water in the community.

Global Aggies: Bridging Technical and Cross-Cultural Skills to Improve Access to Clean Water

Tiven Buggy, a 2020 graduate of the UC Davis College of Engineering's civil and environmental engineering master’s program, now serves as director of water and sanitation for the nonprofit Puente, based in Constanza, La Vega, Dominican Republic. In this role, Buggy relies on data collection and analysis technology to help solve water crises in remote parts of the region. His passion for improving access to clean water ignited during his time in the Peace Corps and continued to be fueled by his global experiences while at UC Davis.

Regulska takes lead on shaping international education

Joanna Regulska, the vice provost and dean of Global Affairs at UC Davis, is among 23 international educators inducted this spring into the inaugural class of the National Academy for International Education, an honorary society and think tank charged with shaping the future of international education.

Ranking Virus Spillover Risk

SpillOver is the first open-source risk assessment tool that evaluates wildlife viruses to estimate their zoonotic spillover and pandemic potential. It effectively creates a watchlist of newly discovered viruses to help policymakers and health scientists prioritize them for further characterization, surveillance, and risk-reducing interventions.

Global Affairs Vice Provost and Dean Joanna Regulska Inducted into National Academy for International Education’s Inaugural Class

Joanna Regulska, vice provost and dean of Global Affairs at UC Davis, has been named a founding member of the National Academy for International Education, as announced on March 22 by the Institute of International Education, or IIE. The first learned society of its kind, the National Academy for International Education is an honorary society and think tank made up of distinguished leaders from all over the world, including Australia, Canada, China, Ghana, Japan, Taiwan, and the U.S., among other countries.

The National Academy for International Education Inducts Inaugural Class of Members

The Institute of International Education (IIE) announces the National Academy for International Education, the first learned society dedicated to international education. The Academy is an honorary society and think tank made up of distinguished leaders actively engaged in shaping international education and generating knowledge to advance the field. A small group of international education leaders supported IIE in forming the initial framework for the Academy, including UC Davis Global Affairs Vice Provost and Dean Joanna Regulska.
