About Karine L. Mahefarisoa

Since she attained her doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Antananarivo, Madagascar, Karine Mahefarisoa has had more than ten years of experience in wildlife health and conservation. Currently, Karine is a Ph.D. candidate doing research at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium. Her research is on the One Health concept, focusing on zoonotic diseases in wildlife and on environmental management and governance in Madagascar. She is a community outreach volunteer in a nongovernmental organization, raising awareness about the importance of biodiversity and the value of the ecosystem services that the environment provides. Karine holds a master's degree in Public Health and another master's degree in Environmental Science and Management. She is committed to her work with local communities seeking optimal health for humans, animals, and the environment. After completing the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, Karine plans to promote environmental advocacy by bringing local communities' voices to decision-makers.
