Seed Grants for International Activities
Deadline: December 14, 2023
Global Affairs partners with UC Davis schools and colleges, the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and the Office of Research to offer grants of up to $20,000 to support international research, spur future collaborations and stimulate external funding. We encourage faculty of all ranks and titles to submit proposals. This year we will focus one of the seed grants on CAMPOS or CAMPSSAH scholars (past and present) and one on research collaboration with Taiwan, funded by the UC Davis-Taiwan Collaborative Research Fund, in memory of former chancellor Larry Vanderhoef.
Grants for Advancing Sustainable Development Goals
Deadline: January 8, 2024
Global Affairs, the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Sustainability and Grand Challenges have partnered to offer grants to promote multidisciplinary collaborations focused on one or more of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This year, we expect to fund up to five awards of up to $7,500 each. One award will go to a proposal focused on climate change; one award to a proposal focused on ensuring equal opportunity and reducing inequalities of outcome, including by eliminating discriminatory laws, policies, and practices and promoting appropriate legislation, policies, and action (SDG 10.3); and one award for CAMPOS/CAMPSSAH scholars. The final two awards can focus on any of the 17 SDGs.
Chancellor's Awards for International Engagement
Deadline: January 8, 2024
The Chancellor's Awards for International Engagement recognize individual faculty and staff members for their outstanding international commitment in carrying out the university's teaching, research and service missions. There are two categories of awards: faculty (Academic Senate or Academic Federation) and staff.
Excellence in Teaching for Global Learning Awards
Deadline: January 12, 2024
The Excellence in Teaching for Global Learning Award, a partnership between Global Affairs and the Academic Senate, recognizes the commitment of UC Davis instructors who go above and beyond to make impactful global learning experiences accessible to UC Davis students. The selection committee members will review all nominees. Two awardees will be selected: one member of the Academic Senate and one member of the Academic Federation.
Connect with UC Davis Humphrey Fellows
Each year, Global Affairs hosts 12 Humphrey Fellows for ten months beginning in August. Call for Collaborative Research Proposals in Applied Sciences
Deadline: November 28, 2023 UC Alianza MX announces a Call for Collaborative Research Proposals in Applied Sciences between the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC) and the University of California (UC). Joint proposals must be led by co-principal investigators from both institutions and are requested in the areas of artificial intelligence, migration and public health.
Call for Collaborative Research Proposals in Applied Researhc in Environment and Health
Deadline: January 12, 2024
UC Alianza MX announces a Call for Collaborative Research Proposals in Applied Sciences between the Instituto Politecnico Nacional in Mexico (IPN) and the University of California (UC). Joint proposals must be led by co-principal investigators from both institutions and are requested in the areas of environmental remediation or sanition, or prevention or treatment of metabolic diseases.

2024 Summer Cultural Leadership Fellowship Program: Open to Undocumented Professionals with DACA
Deadline: November 30, 2023
Scholar Fund is currently accepting applications for its 2024 Summer Cultural Leadership Fellowship program, which is open to undocumented professionals with DACA. Through the fellowship, selected professionals engage in culturally responsive programming with the ability to also participate in community-based ethnography projects in partnership with educators and community-based organizations. Participants will travel to Japan, Portugal, Brazil or South Africa.
Fulbright Opportunities
Fulbright International Education Administrator Award
France and Germany Deadline: February 1, 2024
This award provides international education professionals and senior higher education officials an opportunity to engage in a two-week intensive seminar to learn about the host country’s education system and establish networks of U.S. and international colleagues. Applications for France and Germany are still open.
Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program
The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program offers over 400 awards in more than 135 countries for U.S. citizens to teach, conduct research and carry out professional projects around the world. 2023 HIA Graduate Student Conference

Join the Hemispheric Institute on the Americas (HIA) for a conference featuring the work of the nine recipients of the HIA 2023 Summer Fellowships. Each 20-minute presentation will be followed by 10 minutes of Q&A. Attendance is open and does not require registration. Free lunch and refreshments.

Travel Announcements: Middle East and North Africa
On October 20, 2023, the University of California Office of the President released a letter regarding travel in the Middle East and North Africa: “In recent weeks, we have seen an escalating security risk within the Middle East North Africa (MENA) Region, including anti-Israel and anti-United States protests and violence in several countries. Due to this heightened risk and our concern for the health and safety of University of California students, faculty, and staff, I am directing the UC community to avoid all non-essential travel to the Middle East North Africa (MENA) region for the foreseeable future.”

UC Davis Releases First Global Strategic Plan
UC Davis released its first global strategic plan that creates a five-year global vision for the institution in support of the campus strategic plan, “To Boldly Go.” This plan focuses on strategies and actions that the campus will undertake to strengthen and accelerate its global contributions.
Worldwide Leaders Convene to Protect and Advance Global Biodiversity
UC Davis hosted the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation University Leaders’ Forum Monday (Nov. 13), bringing together nearly 100 international environmental leaders to discuss sustaining and strengthening biodiversity amid climate change. The forum, “Investing in Tomorrow’s Biodiversity,” highlighted UC Davis’ efforts to make a positive impact on the environment.
UC Davis Ranks 3rd for Large Universities with Students Studying Abroad as Gilman Scholars
The U.S. Department of State recognized UC Davis as one of the U.S. colleges and universities that sent the most scholars abroad through the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program in 2021-22.
