Rudo Chasi is a lawyer from Zimbabwe with ten years of experience in criminal litigation, environmental policy development and conservation. Rudo attained her law degree at Nelson Mandela University and a master’s degree in intellectual property from Africa University.
Over the years, she has used her expertise in handling wildlife crimes on behalf of the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority. She designed a pilot project on training rangers for anti-poaching operations, which observe the rule of law and human rights, particularly the rights of accused persons. In the formative years of her career, she was a prosecutor in the Magistrates Court. She joined the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority in 2018 and currently holds the position of legal officer. Rudo is a self-taught guitarist and songwriter who is committed to serving her community using her music. Through her music, she has advocated for women's and sexual rights and raised awareness of gender-based violence and sexual abuse.
As a 2022-23 Humphrey fellow, Rudo hopes to work on the use of advanced technology in wildlife law enforcement, gender equality, indigenous communities' natural resource access and benefit sharing, and climate change. She is interested in creating new synergies with people or organizations around the globe to build new bridges between Africa and the world for the advancement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
