Bio

Ms. Itzel Morales is a campaign manager at Green Island Environmental Group where she coordinates the logistics of environmental education campaigns to create incentives for recycling and conservation of natural resources. Ms. Morales holds a BSc. in biochemical engineering with seven years of experience in project management in different sectors of Mexican industry and government. Additionally, Ms. Morales has an MSc in climate change from Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland where she was awarded a Mexican Department of Science Scholarship.

In 2013, Ms. Morales joined the Climate Reality Leadership Corps as a Climate Leader. Since then, Ms. Morales has spoken to more than 4,000 people to raise awareness about climate change, empowering audiences to reduce CO2 emissions and conserve forests. Due to her work, the government awarded her the Youth Award for Environmental Protection in 2014, and in 2015, she became her community’s Head of Youth Institute. Her future aims are to protect the natural resources of the Terminus Lagoon in Mexico. 

Ms. Morales is currently a Hubert H. Humphrey Fellow at UC Davis for the 2016-2017 academic year. During her fellowship, she wants to engage in projects related to waste management, natural resources conservation and community empowerment to mitigate climate change.
