Especially for International Students — Using Your Nerves to Maximize Academic Performance

This workshop is designed to assist students who find themselves feeling overwhelmed with nervousness before exams. Attendees will learn the relation between feeling nervous, anxiety, and performance, as well as methods to decrease test anxiety. For those who feel less motivated to study and prepare for exams, there are useful tools to help you feel more motivated to prepare as well. All students are welcomed. Come and meet other students, and let’s work together to perform our best!

Integrating Global Learning in the Classroom — Lessons from UC Davis Faculty (Panel)

Global Aggies Sticker Global Aggies Film Screening and Poster Showcase

Everyone is invited to this International Education Week kickoff event which features short films by UC Davis students describing their study, research, and service experiences from 10 nations around the world. From study in Bhutan, to sea turtle egg collection in Taiwan, to treating Elephants in Thailand, and studying design in Europe, students share from their wide array of experiences and provide a vision for what is possible for other students at UC Davis. In addition to the short films, a variety of digital and print posters will provide even more examples. This is a great opportunity to interact with students and gain valuable insights into global learning from their experiences. 

Global Aggies Sticker Diversifying Education Curricula for Elementary Schools in Rural India

  • Organization:  Project RISHI (Rural India Social and Health Improvement)

Project RISHI is a nonprofit organization that works in a rural setting in Southern India. Our team spends the school year developing projects related to health, education, and income generation that are implemented over the summer. We will be highlighting where two of our projects, Computer Programming and Financial Literacy, fall in RISHI’s unique methodology. Through our poster presentation, we hope to showcase why a sustainable and community-driven approach is essential to project development.

Global Aggies Sticker Graduate Student Research in Latin America — Presentations

Graduate students who received fellowships from the Hemispheric Institute on the Americas for summer research in 2019 will present their findings. Their research stretched from Mexico to the Patagonia, with departments and programs from across campus.

Come and learn about how you can get your internships abroad paid by Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship. I will be sharing my experience (and pictures) from my summer abroad in Costa Rica. Learn about how my host, E.A.R.T.H University, facilitated a 6 week program in which I had hands-on experience in 3 farms that specialized in tropical crops, peri-urban, and integrated organic agriculture.

Regeneration Field Institute (RFI) is a company based in Northern California and they work in coastal Ecuador (Bahia de Caraquez and Chone). RFI offers students the opportunity to learn about about Agroecological farming and, more specifically, sustainable construction with Bamboo as a building material. In addition to our bamboo architecture courses, RFI is offering a new spring break Soil Science course with Professor Mustafa Morsy from the University of West Alabama. In this course students will be helping Professor Morsy continue his research in his Endophytic Discovery Lab. Come learn about these course opportunities in the country of Ecuador.

Global Aggies Sticker Interdisciplinary Exchange on Climate Change Research by UC Davis International Scholars

Description:  In celebration of International Education Week, Services for International Students and Scholars invites you to attend a discussion panel: Interdisciplinary Exchange on Climate Change Research. Join us for an engaging forum on climate change led by three UC Davis international scholars from the Department of Viticulture and Enology; the Department of Land, Air and Water Resources; and the Tahoe Environmental Research Center. The forum will focus on research the scholars are conducting in their respective fields, followed by an open discussion, and an exchange highlighting interdisciplinary understandings of climate change and its impact. Pizza will be provided.

Global Aggies Sticker East Asian Studies — Student Presentations and Opportunities

Students of  First Year Seminar/First Year Aggie Connections on East Asian societies will make short presentations to showcase their intellectual growth after a quarter of seminar team-taught by East Asian Studies (EAS) faculty and visiting professors. The student presenters include both American and international students. This EAS FYS/FYAC aims to help students develop skills that are vital for their success in education and career. These include basic training in communication, social interaction, and presentation. More importantly, the diverse social and cultural structure and history of the East Asian region open up students’ horizons, shed light on new perspectives, cultivate problem-solving skills, and nurture critical reasoning.

Refugees and the Human Right to Education — Preview The Article 26 Backpack 2.0

UC Davis Global Affairs, in collaboration with UC Davis Human Rights Studies is at the forefront of empowering refugee university students to exercise their human right to education through the Article 26 Backpack project. The Backpack, a digital-human ecosystem is already working in Lebanon to help young people displaced by the war in Syria protect and share critical academic documentation and have opportunities to better connect with educational resources. Preview the changes in Backpack 2.0, which will go "live" early next year and open your own Backpack.

Global Aggies Sticker Aquaponics in Spain

A month-long, student-led project in Jerez, Spain, among the migrant and refugee community. With help from the Blum Center's PATA grant, four agriculture and food systems students helped build and set up an aquaponics system for an NGO in Spain that seeks to serve the many refugees entering Spain, as well as the large migrant community in Jerez. Come hear about their project and everything they learned, experienced, were challenged with, and accomplished!
