California fights Trump administration ban on international students

UC Davis students and faculty share their reactions to a new policy requiring foreign students to return home if their universities are not offering in-person classes.

“First year students - this is where you create bonds. This is where you interact with each other, this is where you build friendships and professional connections for the rest of your life,” said UC Davis Vice Provost Joanna Regulska

The Trump administration’s new policy would impact campus culture and result in a significant financial loss for UC Davis. “The estimates are that about $440 million in revenues to UC Davis combined international students,” Regulska said.

As multiple graduate students acknowledged the importance of international students and the diversity they bring to campus, UC Davis graduate Tatum Wong stated, “I don't think our campus would be the same without them.”
