UC Davis faculty conducted a training program in The Gambia, funded by the Sustainable Cardiovascular Health Equity Development Alliance and the Medical Research Council Unit The Gambia at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, empowering doctors with Point of Care Ultrasound Echocardiography skills. The program, designed by UC Davis and University of Minnesota experts, aims to improve healthcare in low-resource settings by enabling rapid assessments of heart function. Participants highlight the program's potential to enhance diagnostic capabilities, especially for respiratory and cardiac conditions prevalent in The Gambia, leading to prompt interventions and improved patient care. The initiative is part of a broader educational plan for ongoing support and skill utilization. 

“The Gambia is a perfect environment for portable ultrasounds to make a real difference in patient care and to save lives. This course is a great starting point, and we will continue a longitudinal educational plan with ongoing lectures, quality assurance and follow-up education and training to ensure it is utilized in the best way possible, with patient safety always at the forefront,” said Christine McBeth, assistant professor, department of emergency medicine.
